Day 1 Skill Builder: Shading with Charcoal
Students will learn how to shade using compressed and willow charcoal.
Day 2 Skill Builder: Highlighting with White Charcoal
Students will learn how to create highlights and shading using white charcoal.
Day 3 Skill Builder: How to Draw Hands
Students will learn how to draw hands using simple shapes and lines.
Day 4-5 Semi Project: Fingers
Students will use their knowledge of shading, highlighting and observation skills to draw fingers using compressed, willow and white charcoal.
Day 6 Critique Day
Students will use today to reflect, give input and grow as an artist. Everyone will participate in a class critique giving constructive feedback to fellow students.
Good Example: "I think a red background will not help your foreground pop forward. Have you thought about using green or blue instead?"
Bad Example: "I don't know, I don't like. It looks confusing."
Day 7-14 Main Project: Hands
Day 7-8: Students will research and find a high resolution image of a hand. Once they receive the print out, they will begin drawing out their image onto large brown paper.
Day 9: Critique Day: present to the class your plans. Make any alterations before you begin shading your image.​​​​​​​
Day 10 - 13: Work on your hand composition. Remember to incorporate details, textures, shadows, lighting, etc.
Day 14: Finish your hand composition and turn it in for grading.
